Our shipyard builds the boat of your dreams

Imagine all your houseboats requirements being fulfilled, all your wishes become true. This was achieved by intelligent design and construction. Harald Kuhnle - a charter entrepreneur who had been cruising inland waterways for years - instructed the notable designer Peter Sonntag. His brief was the "perfect charter boat". This was the first Kormoran which was built in the early 90s. Kuhnle was extremely exacting in his specification.

  • Every cabin should be equal, no bunks or cabins without headroom.
  • The galley should look like the traditional home kitchen (four ring stove, hot and cold water, large fridges and extensive worktop space).
  • All cabins should have their own bathroom inluding a sink, shower and toilet, most of them en-suite.
  • The boat should be manouverable easily. Suitable even for beginners.
  • Two steering posititions (inside and outside).
  • The inventory and boat equipment shoud be easy to use and not susceptible to breakdowns.
  • The specification stated strong equipment, easy to reach and service as well as simple to handle.
  • Low-maintenance interior fittings.

Harald Kuhnle was pleased even with the first draft. The design incorporated all the design features specified and gave the boat a traditional shape, everything what a true cruiser wanted including an AAA rating on its cruising test.

However this was just the start and over the next 15 years of development the design was extended into four boat types, a 9.40 m, 11.40 m, 12.80 m and 15.00 m. During this process Harald Kuhnle refused any compromises and only improvements were allowed, like increased fuel efficiency, increased usability in the design and extended lifetime of the fittings and equipment.

Based on the Kormoran-series we started in 2009 together with the designer Nils Fuhrmann (see box right) to plan the Aquino-series. A boat type which does not show its finesse at first sight. The asymmetrical style provides enough space for every comfort you may need. In small little details you can see that the boats were further developed during the practical process of charter. The close connection between charter and shipyard is therefor very usefull. We now build maintenance friendly houseboats and motor yachts. They are ideal for cruises on inland waterways but have also a registration for secured coast areas where they have been also tested.

Flexible design:

The internal structure of the Aquino or Kormoran is incredibly flexible. How about a desk instead of a bunk? More electrical sockets? Connection for a washing machine or more electronics? The Kuhnle Werft has its own construction department with experts for every boat builing aspect. Get inspired and do not restrict your imagination. The Kuhnle Werft will help to make your dream come true.

Please note:

The verticle lines segment the boats structure into several areas (bow, saloon and stern). Within each of these areas you are able to design your "own boat" (You cannot cross these segments in order to maintain the structural integrity).

Nils Fuhrmann

The designer Nils Fuhrman (41) has grown up on the river Elbe and was facinated from boats and yachts since he was a child. He studied industrial design with specialication for water vehicles from sail boats to cruise liners. He has worked for MeyerWerft, Hanseyachts, Seaway and BMWdesignworksUSA. As a freelancer he has designed the Aquino. As he said: "an elegant and innovative yacht with an atmosphere and a convenience of a houseboat."
